What happened: Large B.C. tech employer promotes co-founder to top job

Why it matters: Despite leadership change during pandemic, outgoing CEO will remain part of company

One of B.C.’s biggest tech companies has a new leader at the helm.

Visier Inc. announced Wednesday (May 6) co-founder Ryan Wong has been bumped up to the CEO job effective immediately.

Wong had been serving as president of the workplace analytics company the past three years and was its founding chief technology officer.

He co-founded Visier in 2010 with outgoing CEO John Schwartz, who will remain tied to the company as chairman of the board.

While the leadership change comes during a time of economic uncertainty for many, Schwartz noted in a statement that the organizations that will survive the crisis will be those able to act with agility through data-driven decision-making.

Visier employs 340 workers in B.C., up from 230 a year earlier, according to BIV data.

Last year, the company ranked No. 31 in Canada on the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 list, with 515.61% revenue growth over the past three years.

“We have always had a very clear vision for how Visier will help people to see the truth in their data and enable them to build a better future, and that vision remains as powerful today as when we were just a small team in a rented townhouse,” Wong said in a statement.

“Today, we are the market leader in people analytics, and are on a path to bring analytics to every business function.”
